“Did you ever notice how cats like sticking their butts up in the air when they’re greeting you, or you’re petting them or scratching them? It’s not just so that you can get a better angle on the spot they want scratched the most.
Cats have scent glands at the base of their tails that produce their own signature scent. When greeting a new or existing friend they offer you their booty for sniffing. The pheromones that they release communicate friendship to the other cat.
It’s basically the kitty version of the high five.”
