Dusted off my watercolours, coloured pencils and fine liner today and had a bit of a play. I’ve done various versions of this image..coloured markers, digital and now good old fashioned art supplies. Very therapeutic.
After a childhood spent copying my favourite Christmas & birthday cards I did study Plant and Wildlife Illustration at University (the only course offered at the time) but it was mainly concerned with materials and techniques and in no way prepared me for the “business of Illustration”. Sure I can stipple the hell out of a drawing of a locust but it left me unprepared for how to actually make money from what I had learnt…hence the jump to graphic design a couple of months after graduating.
Now I glean all my information by trawling through professional illustrators websites, YouTube clips and blogs.
My biggest problem is self confidence so your lovely comments about my little doodles do more than you know. Thank You ;D.
Did you go to school to learn to do art like this? Every time I open one of your posts, I am amazed by the detail and charm.
